LVJUSD BOARD APPOINTS
BELIA MARTINEZ AS TRUSTEE
January 24, 2012 - The Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees appointed Belia Martinez as Trustee after public interviews of seven highly qualified prospective candidates were held on Saturday, January 21, 2012.
The open seat was created when Stewart Gary was elected to the Livermore City Council in November. She is being installed at the January 24, 2012 Board of Education meeting and will serve through December 2012, when Gary's term would have ended.
Martinez brings with her a broad range of experience. Raised in south Texas in an underprivileged background, she recognized the importance of a formal education and the opportunities it would present for her future. After
graduating high school, she enlisted in the United States Army. Her first tour was in Korea, followed by Washington
State where she served her country and earned financial assistance for a college education. Returning to Texas, she enrolled at Texas Womans University and received a Bachelors Degree in Business with a concentration in Finance. Following graduation, she worked as an Account Manager for Consolidated Freight Way, Project Manager for Verizon and Information Technology Recruiter for Source EDP, and a Real Estate Agent for Windermere.
In her many years as a Livermore resident, she has immersed herself as an advocate of children by serving on School Site Council Committees, Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Boards and as a Parent Center Coordinator. Working as a community liaison, Martinez played an important role in the seamless merger of Portola Elementary and Junction Middle School to the combined Junction K-8 School. Her extensive outreach and successful public relations efforts garnered community support for the Dual Immersion Program, Futsal fields, and Mariachi club at Junction K-8.
Martinez has also been an active member of her childrens education as a volunteer in the classroom,
clubs, and community sports. In addition, she has helped coordinate the Summer Youth Employment Project,
through the Tri-Valley Community Foundation, mentoring students to emphasize real-world work expectations,
increase awareness of services offered by local community-based organizations, and provide opportunities for career instruction, financial literacy training, academic improvement, and social growth.
Martinez is enthusiastic about her appointment, saying I am excited about my new position as the newest LVJUSD
Board Member. I am ready to put my heartfelt efforts toward making a positive difference in our school community. I look forward to visiting all of our schools and developing solid and supportive relationships with staff members and families. I am thrilled about the upcoming year and the great results that will arise from it.

A Little about LVEF
In 2009-10 LVEF donated almost a quarter of a million dollars district-wide to support programs and scholarships that directly reached students and teachers. All proceeds from Reach for the Stars! will be designated to fund LVEF's 2010-11programs.
Straight A's for Livermore Students Campaign in support of district arts programs. LVEF's annual Straight A's Campaign aims to raise $300,000 each year to fund Academics, Arts and Athletics programs in the LVJUSD.
For more information regarding the mission to support Livermore schools, contact LVEF at livermorevalleyedfound@gmail.com or visit www.lvef.org and www.firstgiving.com/lvef.
LVEF encourages all of our school sites to step out on the stage and Reach for the Stars! to fund our wonderful arts programs!
Being a PTA member does NOT mean volunteering one second of time. Your membership alone supports education for children at local, state, and national levels. We thank all parents, teachers, grandparents, friends, relatives, and business people in our community who support our children through their PTA membership.
If you happen to have some time to give, Croce PTA would LOVE to have your help. All of our programs are 100% volunteer run. We have opportunities for everyone whether you can give minutes or hours! Just contact us.
One Saturday a month Croce PTA joins forces with Christensen Middle School PTA and hosts a night of BINGO at the Bingo Ranch in Livermore. Volunteers work shifts doing everything from selling pull tabs to running registers.
This is the first PTA Family event of the year and what fun we have! We can use help manning carnival-style games, working inside the Haunted House, dishing out goodies, and more.
Volunteers provide instruction, gather materials, and assistant with lessons. Be a superstar for your child!
Volunteers help collect and sort food items. This program is a very rewarding experience as our children learn the valuable lesson of giving back!
Every Wednesday from 1:30-2:00 Croce PTA sells ice cream bars to our students for 50 cents. We need volunteers to man registers and hand out cool treats.
Yearbook Photographers and Designers
Croce PTA collects pictures of events inside and outside the classroom all year long. Our yearbook chairman needs photographers at every grade level. In March/April, Croce PTA needs volunteers to help with the layout of the yearbook. In June, volunteers help distribute books to our students and run a Yearbook signing party to collect those special signatures.
Croce kids create artwork all year long through our FAME program. Students select a few pieces of their artwork to display at the PTA’s Art Festival. Volunteers help frame artwork, set up displays, and run the festival.
This can be shared by two or more parents/guardians in the classroom. This volunteer(s) will help PTA with the E-Flyer program in the classroom on Friday afternoons and will be a point of contact between the PTA, parents, and the teacher.
PTA hosts a book fair in the winter and spring. Volunteers are needed to help set up, tear down, and work during the fair(s).
